One of the experiences you can do in Italy is admire one of the best blooms in Italy. It’s worthwhile!

Today’s place is quite well-known in Italy for an event that takes place every year between June and mid-July. I’m talking about Castelluccio di Norcia, and the event in question is the blooming of lentils. it is considered one of the best blooms in Italy. If you have never heard of Castelluccio let me give you some informations.

The plain of Castelluccio is a plateau of about 15 square kilometers, located in the Sibillini Mountains National Park in the central Apennines of Italy at an altitude of 1450m. Every year it transforms into a palette of colors due to the blooming of lentils grow here. In fact, this place is famous for the production of lentils.

My ride

I left my city at 3:30 am and arrived around 6:45 am. Why so early?🤔

My intention was to see the sunrise, but I was too late😅. Late in the morning, the place starts to be crowded and it’s very hot. There is no place to escape the sun so be well-equipped with water. Anyway, once I arrived, the plain was still covered in a sea of fog, so I couldn’t see much. In the meantime, I took the opportunity to take some photos and had breakfast. Despite being in the middle of summer, it was quite cool in the early morning, so it’s better to bring a sweater.

To better appreciate the valley, I reach the highest point of this town. Meanwhile the fog has been clearing. Not bad, indeed!

After that I descended into the valley to get a closer look at the blooming. As a general rule, it’s forbidden to enter the lentils fields to avoid damaging the crops. However, there are trails right next to the crops. You can admire the blooming as close as possible.

Take some shots with my camera, it’s time to come back. I will be at home by lunch. After al, I woke up at 3 am and i was tired, so i decided not to stay there for lunch but to come back home.

A very short trip but it was really amazing!

How to get there

The best way to reach Castelluccio di Norcia is by car. There’s only a bus serving Castelluccio, once a week, on thursdays, from Norcia. Check the timetable on the official site.

During the weekends this area is super crowded, it’s highly discouraged to go on the weekends.

In the official site there also are accommodations if you want to spend a night here. There are other activities you can do (trekking, rafting and others).

However if you only come here to see the flowering, half a day is fine
